Pictured above: “Balancing Act” is a playful low–relief mural representing ideas of tradition and change in Simpsonville. The train and the wheels suggest hard work and progress. They also refer to Simpsonville’s history as a 19th Century center of transportation. The bell recalls the textile industry while the anvil is the tool of the blacksmith, who “some say” founded the community. The Cherokee tradition is illustrated in the geometric forms of basketry, and a pointed arch is a reminder of Simpsonville’s faith. All of these visual symbols appear to be carefully balanced as Simpsonville approaches the promise of the 21st Century.
